PRS Geo-Technologies NewsResearch: Design and Construction of PRS Neoloy Geocells Reinforced Mud Embankment
This study, by Sitharam and Hegde provides academic proof that geocell foundation is a suitable solution for reinforcing an embankment. A laboratory comparison between an NPA Geocell-reinforced sample from red mud in Lanjighar, Orissa in India, and an unreinforced sample from the same location, demonstrates that NPA Geocells increase bearing capacity by up to 5 times. The study also showed that combining NPA Geocells with a basal geogrid can eliminate surface heaving. This solution allowed for quick embankment construction, while using local labor and tools significantly reduced costs.
