Challenge

Baha’i religious officials wanted to establish 19 terraced gardens highlighting the Shrine of the Báb. This golden-domed building houses the remains of the founder of the Baha’i Faith. The center was built on a very steep slope that was in danger of sliding due to erosion. The client required a solution for stabilizing the slope and preparing the ground for gardening soil and vegetation. The Baha’i officials also requested a solution based on “green” technology that would address environmental concerns.

Conventional Solution

The conventional solution calls for spreading and compacting gardening soil, and planting vegetation. This method does not solve the slope’s erosion stabilization problems, and requires substantial ongoing maintenance.

Neoloy Tough-Cell Solution

The selected solution involved spreading Neoloy Tough-Cell along the length of the slope and filling it with gardening soil.

Neoloy Tough-Cell provided a combined engineering and gardening solution that met the client’s strict requirements for stability and aesthetics. Since the official opening of the 19 terraced gardens in 2001, the impressive site has become a magnet for local and international visitors.
